Rivals' ranks, growth, metadata and image changes - recorded daily.
There is no such thing as an absolute ranking in ASO. When a rival changes their title and rises, you fall without touching anything. Watching your own metadata and not theirs is looking at half the equation.
The good news: every move on the rival side is publicly visible in the store. All it takes to see it is a record that remembers yesterday.
Metadata snapshots
Titles and subtitles are recorded daily. The answer to “what happened last Tuesday?” is sitting there.
Δrating/day
New ratings per day move in proportion to install volume. It needs two snapshots; it is not computed from one.
Image changes
Icons and screenshots do not change for no reason. If they did, the rival is working on conversion.
Ranks are free
A rival's rank is read out of the search already being run for your keyword - no extra request, no surcharge.
Choosing rivals matters more than lengthening the list
Discovery starts by searching the store with your app's own title and category, and the list that comes back is loose. Category matching filters it; apps whose category is unknown are kept, because Google Play publishes no genre id.
You approve the result. An app in the same category doing a different job pollutes your vocabulary.
What stands in for install counts
Apple does not give install counts to third parties. The only measurable thing is rating growth, and the estimate derived from it is shown as a band rather than as a single number.
When the measurement is insufficient the band is not shown either. We do not write zero.
What it does not do
We do not claim to measure what we cannot. This screen's limits:
- We cannot know a rival's real install and revenue figures; nobody can.
- Metadata history accumulates from the day you start tracking. There is no retroactive record.

- No. Every reading is made from the store's public face.
